This term pupils at Barnes Farm Infant School and Primary have been changing the way they travel to school.
Instead of being dropped off outside the school by car they have been walking, cycling, scooting or using “park and stride” from the Asda car park.
This has dramatically reduced congestion at pick up and drop of times, helped neighbours who were struggling with the traffic, improved safety and also meant the children have been more active.
I have been supporting this initiative as I was extremely concerned about the safety of pupils following reports of “near misses” involving children and vehicles. It was very good to visit the schools on Friday and award certificates to those who have gone the extra mile to make changes.
The scheme will continue next term and into the future.
