I am delighted that the new Criminal Justice Bill has now passed its committee stage.
The Bill introduces a wide range of measures to help keep people safe and tackle crime.
People in Chelmsford may be interested to know that it will outlaw the signal jammers that car thieves use to steal vehicles.
It will introduce a new legal offence of spiking - an issue I have campaigned on for a long time.
It updates many different measures in our law.
I have served on the Bill Committee of 17 MPs going clause by clause through the Bill and amendments. We have spent every Tuesday and Thursday working on this since before Christmas so it has been a big commitment of time.
I do apologise if I have had to drop some other priorities during this time.
There are still two more phases of the Bill in the House of Commons main chamber where all MPs can comment and suggest amendments.
