I support the #wearitpink campaign to raise funds for Breast Cancer Now. Like many readers, I have close friends who are fighting breast cancer right now.
Every 10 minutes, someone in the UK hears the words “you have breast cancer”. It’s the most common cancer in women in the UK. Each year around 11,500 women and 85 men lose their lives to the disease.
But treatments are improving all the time, and early diagnosis makes a huge difference to outcomes. Breast screening saves lives.
In Chelmsford, 55.6% of women attended their first breast screening when invited. This compares to a national average of 49%.
Women who don’t attend their first screening are less like to attend others when invited in the future.
Please do join me in raising awareness and encouraging your friends, families and neighbours to take up their invitation to screening.
Wear it Pink is one of the largest fundraising events in the UK.
Anyone can take part in wear it pink, whether at school, work or at home. All you need to do is wear something pink, or hold a pink themed event, and donate to Breast Cancer Now.
With every penny raised, fundraisers across the UK will be helping the charity achieve its vision that by 2050 everyone diagnosed with breast cancer lives, and is supported to live well.
