This week Chelmsford found itself at the centre of attention for one of Britain’s most exciting areas of new innovative engineering. The UK National Quantum Technologies strategic advisory board held their first ever meeting outside of London and chose to meet at Teledyne e2v.
Quantum technology has a huge range of real world applications. These include the development of much more accurate clocks which will provide real benefits for more accurate location finding. This is expected to bring a wide range of civilian and military applications.
Teledyne e2v are developing a “Gravity Sensor” which will make it easier to see what is happening underneath the earth’s surface. This will help detect earthquakes and find valuable minerals and precious metals.
At the meeting representatives were shown some of the new products that Teledyne is now manufacturing. These include a Cold Atom Trap, the first commercial product that the company is placing on the market. It is just one example of the advanced instruments which the company expects to sell.
Vicky Ford MP for Chelmsford said, “Chelmsford has a proud history In scientific innovation. I was delighted to welcome experts from all across the UK to Chelmsford. This is a very exciting new sector of innovation and it’s great that Chelmsford has a world leading company making real products and creating local jobs”.
