Apprenticeships appeal to those looking for alternatives to university. They often take a more practical approach to learning and enable students to earn as they learn. By focusing on training for a specific career, young people can learn a trade by actually doing the job. Chelmsford College is one of the leading organisations in Essex supporting young people through apprenticeships and work experience. Last year 650 people started apprenticeships in Chelmsford.
At the end of last week, Vicky visited Chelmsford College where she spoke to students studying childcare courses and health and social care courses. During the visit, Vicky also joined the lessons on science and forensic science where one class was investigating the scene of a cybercrime whilst another group were examining the behaviour of enzymes and maggots!
Vicky said: “I was extremely impressed by the hard working, enthusiastic students I met at Chelmsford College, many of whom will go on to do University degrees or take up Apprenticeships. As part of National Apprenticeship Week, I strongly encourage local employers small and large that might be thinking about how they could enlarge their workforce to get in contact with the college and look at ways to partner together.”
