Vicky Ford MP met Diesel and spent time with the charity Guide Dogs at the Conservative Party conference last week discussing the challenges that blind and partially sighted people face when walking the streets, including pavement parking, street clutter and shared spaces.
Vicky commented: “Chelmsford has a superb city centre and great steps have been made to make it more accessible to those who are blind, however there are still dangerous challenges at certain crossing places. I strongly support the excellent work of Guide Dogs For The Blind to raise awareness and help solve practical problems faced by those who are blind and partially sighted.”
Vicky added that last year, she did a blindfolded walk through Chelmsford City Centre with the Guide Dogs for the Blind.
Helen Honstvet, Senior Campaigns and Public Affairs Manager at Guide Dogs, said: “We’re calling for action to tackle the most common hazards that affect blind and partially sighted people on their local streets: pavement parking, street clutter and shared spaces.”
