UPDATE on Cladding issues. There was welcome news from the Secretary of State for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities regarding cladding earlier this month.
This issue has affected a number of my constituents in a small number of developments across Chelmsford. Each situation is different and I have been supporting leaseholders to try to resolve negotiations with developers and property owners in order to make sure fire safety issues are resolved.
I understand that remediation works are already taking place on Century Tower and Armstrong Gibbs Court. The development that affects the largest number of Chelmsford residents is the Marconi development. After many months of discussions the developer, Bellway, has agreed to remove cladding at their expense.
I am aware that one of the main concerns was the cost to leaseholders. The Secretary of State outlined that leaseholders should not have to pay for fire remediation work on their property and if the developer is refusing to engage then the Government will look to impose a solution on them in law.
