I recently visited Popworld in Chelmsford with police officers to hear about what they do to keep people safe.
Every Friday and Saturday night, a welfare officer is present for people who need help, there are also 10 door staff, at least one of whom is always a woman.
They showed me their glass and bottle covers that are freely available to help prevent drink spiking and informed me how they will recharge phones, walk women to the taxi rank and give free water to anyone who asks. Over forty CCTV cameras monitor the club so that any incidents can be investigated.
The police officers informed me how seriously they are taking safety at venues. It is very important that suspected drinks spiking is reported to them ideally within 24 hours of the incident so that it can be properly investigated.
