Recently, I visited the Ambulance Operations Centre in Broomfield. I would like to thank all those who work at the centre for their dedication and hard work.
From here, 999 call handlers and ambulance dispatchers coordinate ambulances across the East of England.
I spoke with ambulance dispatchers who talked me through the logistical challenges of responding to emergencies across the whole region.
I was deeply impressed with the calmness of 999 call handlers who maintain absolute composure when taking an urgent call to keep people calm and safeguard lives.
I was pleased to hear that response times are improving. Currently the average time for ambulances to respond to category 1 calls in our area is less than 10 minutes.
Hospital handover times in Mid and South Essex are also now improving, with a current average of around 30 minutes.
