Thank you to Chelmsford Litter Wombles for letting me join them litter picking this afternoon in Springfield. I was shocked by the amount of litter around Sainsbury's, BP and Marks and Spencer.
I have contacted all these companies via Twitter and asked them to clean up their local areas and put in some bins (top marks to M&S for a swift response). Of course it would be best if people took litter home, but a few bins could make a huge difference. I will also be writing formally to the companies concerned.
We also found some road signs. Apparently our local Wombles find and report these often but they are rarely collected. I will be writing to Essex Highways to ask them to work with the Wombles to get them cleared up.
